Our Story

Two Film Nerds.
One Very Honest Ape.

On Great White Ape you’ll find in-depth reviews of the latest releases and hidden gems, video essays on themes and filmmaking technique, and pop-culture commentary on Hollywood trends and the future of storytelling.

Whether you’re a casual fan or a hardcore movie junkie, this is the place for conversations that stick with you. Subscribe and join the discussion.

What We Stand For

The GWA Way

Uncompromising Honesty

We don’t pander to studios or hype cycles. Every review is a genuine take — even when it’s an unpopular one.

Deep Movie Geekery

Easter eggs, cinematography, director histories, and the context casual viewers miss.

Funny & Real

The banter isn’t scripted. Think two friends in the front row, riffing until the credits roll.

For Everyone

From first-time moviegoers to obsessive cinephiles — if you love stories, pull up a seat.

How We Rate

The Banana Scale

Stars are for the Walk of Fame. We rate in bananas — zero to five, half-bananas allowed. Every score is our honest take: no screeners-for-favors, no studio money, no hype-train tickets.

Think of it as two guys in the front row of the theater, riffing until the credits roll — then telling you exactly what they thought.

Top BananaAn all-timer. Drop everything and go watch it.
Ripe & ReadyGreat stuff with a bruise or two. Easy recommend.
Worth a PeelSome good, some mush. Watch it if it's your thing.
BruisedMore misses than hits. Wait for streaming… maybe.
Slipped on ItWe watched it so you don't have to.
Rotten PeelStraight into the compost. Riff-worthy at best.
